My best Blues eleven – goalkeeper

My best eleven from over forty years of supporting Blues, starting with the last line of defence.

In praise of … compilation albums

When it comes to lists of favourite albums, compilation albums are often conspicuous by their absence.

Good riddance to bad rubbish

Birmingham City season review – 20/21

Something strangely familiar in the most unique of seasons.

Over and out

Adrian at the Carling Cup final at Wembley in 2011

Blackburn Rovers 5 – Birmingham City 2

The strangest of seasons came to an end at Ewood Park as an experimental Blues were overwhelmed by a Blackburn side who made their greater experience count in the last twenty minutes.

A garden of earthly delights – XTC’s studio albums – English Settlement

English Settlement is the pivotal album for XTC with both cover and name signalling a shift in perspective for the band. A shift from suburban to countryside, from contemporary to timeless.

Lack of fringe benefits

Birmingham City 0 – Cardiff City 4

Disappointing day at St Andrews as an experienced Cardiff side overwhelmed a disjointed mish-mash of a Blues side.

Bowyer saves the day

Derby County 1 – Birmingham City 2

Safe! A stirring second half comeback turned things around at Pride Park as Blues second half display grabbed the three points needed to ensure survival in the Championship.

Blues pay the penalty

Adrian at the Carling Cup final at Wembley in 2011

Birmingham City 1 – Nottingham Forest 1

Won’t detain you long with a instantly forgettable game where Blues had two points snatched away from them by a dubious penalty decision by a ref who made up seven minutes of injury time in a second half of very few stoppages.

Is it safe?

Adrian at the Carling Cup final at Wembley in 2011

Rotherham United 0 – Birmingham City 1

Got away with one here. But who cares as Blues virtually sealed their place in the division. The worst and the most Karanka-like performance of the Bowyer reign saw a huge win to stretch the lead over Rotherham to nine points with games running out.

Three is the magic number

Adrian at the Carling Cup final at Wembley in 2011

Birmingham City 2 – Stoke City 0

Three home wins on the bounce, three clean sheets in a row. Blues continued to ease themselves away from the relegation zone with what turned out to be a comfortable win against a limited Stoke side.
